While downloading a large file, you should keep an eye on the progress, so you can react immediately if something goes wrong. If a download is interrupted, you have to start all over again. Situations like this can be avoided with a download manager. uGet can make your downloads significantly faster and it gives you the possibility of resuming interrupted processes. You can also filter and organize your downloads, set up retry limits and intervals and more.

uGet is intended mainly for Linux platforms, but you can find a portable Windows version as well. On Windows operating systems, you only need to extract uGet's files from a ZIP archive and run its executable. The unpacked application takes up about 30 MB of disk space. It works even on older machines, due to its modest hardware requirements, and you don't have to install any prerequisite tools.

The application displays your downloading processes in a list, on a user friendly interface. You can filter them to show only queued downloads, active or finished ones or canceled processes. The available filters can be found on the left side of the interface, where you can also create categories for your downloads, with different settings.

New downloads can be prepared and categorized on a separate window, on which you must paste a download link, select a destination folder and make other settings. You can specify a username and a password, on the same window, if you need to log into an account before downloading something. It is also possible to set a retry limit and a delay between retries.

If you copy a download link, on any web browser, uGet will automatically display the New Download window, with the link already pasted. The best part about this application is the fact that it won't get in your way. Using a download manager with small files is not worth the effort and it can be annoying when such a program pops up each time you attempt to retrieve a small file or even when you try to watch a web video. Fortunately, this is not the case with uGet. Unless you copy a download link to the clipboard, the application will not interfere. If you simply click such a link, the browser will start downloading as usual.

Pros

You can download large files faster than using similar applications. uGet allows you to categorize your downloads and make various preparations. It doesn't need to be installed, it is easy to use and it won't get in your way.

Cons

There are no serious drawbacks to address. A faster downloading speed and better management controls are just a few examples of what uGet has to offer.
